Der neue Act auf dem Label der schon mal auf dem Limited Sublabel von Santorin veröffentlich hat, findet hier zu einer dichtgepackten Funkyness in der sich Gitarrensamples und euphorische Startupbreakbeatmythen mit einem dichten Soulflair paaren, das irgendwo zwischen Influx und Intalex liegt, ohne allerdings wirklich ravig werden zu wollen. Charmant. Sunest zeigt dann wie man von der elegischere swingendere Seite in Amenrush plumpsen kann ohne dabei das Oldschool Grinsen zu verlieren. Sympathische Platte der es vielleicht nur ein klein wenig an drückendem Sound fehlt. 4 von 5 (bleed)

Nach seinem Superhit “Sunrise“ auf S Limited kommt hier der Ostberliner Young AX schon wieder zum Zug auf dem Tübinger Traditionslabel. Mit “Alone“ zaubert er dabei einen Kracher hin, der vom Stil her zwischen “Bambaata“ und “Brand New Funk“ liegt und das Beste aus zwei Überhits zusammenbaut zu was? Genau, zum Knaller schlechthin! Die Flipside “Sunset“ ist sein Nachfolger zum verspäteten Sommerhit “Sunrise“, der krisp abrollt und England ganz locker links liegen läßt. (DS)

Zuallererst muss ich einmal dem beigefügten Onesheet widersprechen, denn auch wenn es auf dem Waschzettel draufsteht, dies ist keine typische Santorin! "Alone" ist ein ziemlich funky Roller, der von der Stimmung und den Breaks her in Richtung Total Science geht, und mit einem netten Vocal und einer guten Bassline einfach für Stimmung sorgen wird. "Sunset" ist ein Amen&Reese-Smasher wie man ihn kennt, fairerweise muss man dazu sagen, dass ich die an sich nicht mehr hören kann, und für Feinheiten in dem Bereich auch nicht mehr empfänglich bin. Zurück zum ersten Punkt, diese Platte ist einfach zu straight um die typische Santorin zu sein. (MA)

Nachdem Young Ax schon auf Santorin Limited sein Debut abgegeben hat, ist hier auch der erste vollständige Release auf dem Santorin Hauptlabel. Wie auch schon bei den vergangenen releases: sehr gute Produktion aus deutschen Landen. Die eine Seite ist sehr funky und verbreitet Partylaune pur. Die Flipside ist ein fetter Amentune bei dem jeder das Tanzbein schwingen wird. Young Ax wird uns hoffentlich in Kürze mit weiteren netten releases beglücken. Dies hoffen wir natürlich auch von Santorin an sich. Für mich im Moment sowieso eines der besten Labels aus Deutschland. 9 von 10 (Loo-P)

Young Ax kommt aus Berlin und hat bereits einen Track für das Santorin-Sublabel S Limited produziert. "Alone" ist ein lockerer Roller mit perkussiven Beats, einem eingängigen Vocal-Hook und entfernten Brazil-Anleihen (keine DJ Marky/Patife-Kopie!!!) und eindeutig der Gewinner-Track dieser Maxi. Auf der Flip "Sunset" wird dann mit sauber editierten Amen-Breaks gearbeitet, wobei aber leider das restliche Drumherum etwas einfallslos geraten ist. Braucht man heutzutage wirklich noch derartige Distortion Bass Lines? Meiner Meinung nach nicht, was aber keinesfalls die gute Produktion und den Party-Charakter des Stückes schmälern soll. Rewind (CAN) - February 2002
New upstart Young Ax jumps from the sister label (S Limited) to the mothership! With his second outing he gives us two very different vibes to work the floor with. On "Alone" we are treated to some shuffly breaks akin to M.I.S.T.'s take on 9x9 which then drops out to some nice ska-tinged guitar licks. The Jamaican vibe does not end there as Young Ax then injects some smoothed out rastaman vocals. Definitely one for the feel good crew! "Sunset" expands and mutates some of the key elements off his last single "Sunrise". A pretty deceptive tune as it starts witha mellow vibe, but soon gives way to some nasty grinding bass tactics. It makes for a verygood transitional track indeed! (ESB)

Here are two more dancefloor killers from new artist Young Ax. Crisp beats and a funky vocal run a solid groove through "Alone". You won't be "Alone" out on the floor when this bootylicious cut drops. On the flip is "Sunset", the follow up to the epic, "Sunrise" from the S Limited sub-division. This one is slammed out with a grinding b-line and amen precision. Nice one. (Sharee)

The best German drum'n'bass label has just released a record that's totally different than all their previous releases. They still keep the highest production values, but this one has a new vibe unknown from before. For their jubilee tenth release they've decided to sign Young AX who seems to be cementing his name in the major d'n'b league. Known for the fabulous "Sunrise" (S Limited), he continues to explore the depths of the genre. "Alone" is the obvious hit on the record, quoting various influences from the rich hip-hop heritage. It starts with fast-paced beats and atmospheric pads which lead to an unbelievably catchy vocal phrase, supported by a funky brass section. It's another one of those tunes which are going to open everyone's eyes and make them realize the true power of d'n'b. "Sunset" on the flip is the logical follow-up to "Sunrise". It has everything it takes to satisfy even the most strict stepper - a busy bassline, intelligently chopped amens, discreet effects and the best of unexpected samples. (M-Ill)

Wow...this is a suprise! Santorin is definetly not a label sticking to any special style as it here brings us the joyfull d&b-latin swing of “Alone” along with “Sunset”, a hard ass kicking amen attack, on the flip. This second release of the East-Berliner Young AX surely rocks! The catchy vocal “Baaby don’t you leave me...in this world alone” is definetly the trademark of “Alone”. A very funky tune which makes you dance...and even sing (I was reliefed to read the press release saying that “if you want to sing a long-just do it!”). “Sunset”, a follow up to Young’s first release “Sunrise”, is coming from another direction with a grim amen roll, hard bass and jazzy sax riff. Good release from the brave people at Santorin! (Eldar)

Pour sa dixième sortie, Santorin innove encore avec ce 12’ de YOUNG AX, jeune producteur remarqué avec le dub-esque morceau ‘Sunrise’ qui figurait en A side de la dernière sortie de leur sous label S-Limited 02. Toujours à l’avant garde d’un son innovant, ‘Alone’ dégage une vibe fraiche et surprenante : le morceau débute par une intro quasi atmosphérique aux beats frénétiques qu’un break funky emmène dans une direction totalement irrésistible : des vocaux carrément incroyables se mettent en place dégageant des vibes positivement réjouissantes et apportant une bonne humeur incroyable. Dans un registre résolument plus techstep et radical, ‘Sunset’, après un long démarrage jazzy mellow (qui en fait un excellent morceau de transition), développe sur une basse rugueuse à souhait, des breaks nerveux aux effets efficaces. Une nouvelle réussite pour le plus intéressant des labels allemands. (Flexi)

Santorin Records to preznie funkcjonujaca komorka drum'n'bass z siedzibq w Tuebingen (Stuttgart). Zalozona przez Lightwooda i spolke, po raz kolejny dostarcza porcje konkretnych drumow. Tym razem sluchamy debiutanta, berlinczyka young ax. "Alone" to produkcja podazajaca popularnym tropem funky/jazz/techstep, zapraszajaca na parkiet spokojnym "rollujacym" breakiem. Numer ten brzmi nadzwyczaj swiezo i az trudno uwierzyc, ze to produkcja debiutanta. "Sunset" jest zdecydowanie mocniejszy, jest fuziq jungle i d'n'b przypominajaca stare czasy. Dostajemy bardzo dobra plyte, ktora polecam do sprawdzenia w naszych lokalnych dj shopach. 4 von 5 (Skylark)
